Meet the New Owners of The Westbourne: Greg & Angela
Tuesday 30th December 2025
The Westbourne entered an exciting new chapter in July 2025, when new owners Greg and Angela relocated from Aberdeen to take on the well-regarded guest house in Bowness on Windermere. Since taking over, they have been continuing a long tradition of warm hospitality at The Westbourne, alongside a clear commitment to thoughtful improvements and personal service. The couple assumed ownership following the retirement of the previous long-standing owners.
Greg and Angela had visited the Lake District for many years, often choosing Bowness for its scenery, friendly atmosphere and easy access to walking routes. Each visit strengthened their desire to make the area a permanent part of their lives. When the opportunity arose to purchase The Westbourne, they recognised it as the ideal moment to turn that ambition into reality. Their decision reflects a genuine appreciation for the region and a shared passion for hospitality.
Before moving to Bowness, Greg worked in the offshore oil and gas industry. His background required strong organisational skills, reliability and the ability to manage demanding schedules. These qualities have transferred naturally into running a guest house and ensuring that day-to-day operations run smoothly.
Angela brings a lifetime of hospitality experience to The Westbourne. She began working in the industry at just 15, starting in housekeeping before progressing through a wide range of hotel roles. Her career has included positions in Food and Beverage Management at a large hotel and resort, as well as General Manager of a smaller independent hotel. This extensive background gives her a deep understanding of guest expectations, attention to detail and the importance of creating a welcoming atmosphere. Guests already appreciate her warm, friendly manner and the personal care she brings to every stay.
One of the couple’s first priorities has been a programme of gradual refurbishments. Their approach focuses on enhancing comfort and updating areas that benefit from fresh attention while maintaining the welcoming character of the building. The Westbourne occupies a Victorian Lakeland stone property dating back to the late 1800s, and Greg and Angela aim to preserve its charm while ensuring that the interiors remain bright, clean and inviting. Improvements include refreshed décor, upgraded room facilities, thoughtful finishing touches and ongoing work in areas that matter most to guests, such as bathrooms and bedding quality.
Their commitment extends beyond physical updates. Greg and Angela want The Westbourne to remain a friendly and reliable place to stay in Bowness on Windermere. They take pride in offering freshly prepared and locally sourced breakfasts each morning, providing local recommendations and maintaining the relaxed environment that so many guests value.
Cleanliness, comfort and personal service are central to their approach, and early reviews already reflect this dedication.
They also recognise the importance of offering good value and clear communication. With free parking for every room, a peaceful location close to the centre of Bowness and helpful guidance for exploring the local area, The Westbourne continues to be a convenient base for guests visiting the Lake District.
As Greg and Angela settle into their new roles, they look forward to welcoming returning visitors as well as meeting new guests. Their aim is simple: to continue the warm reputation of The Westbourne while steadily improving the experience for everyone who stays. This new chapter brings both continuity and fresh energy, ensuring that The Westbourne remains a comfortable and inviting place to stay in Bowness on Windermere.
